Dot Eco Washington DC Consultation
Agenda | Meeting Report Forthcoming
When: Tuesday, November 17th from 9 - 12
Where: 1250 24th St NW # 6 - World Wildlife Fund
Who Attended?
Companies, Non-profits, Policymakers, Academics and others interested in how best to build and run an 'eco' Internet.
What was Discussed?
Dot Eco (as in www.example.eco) is a proposal for a new Internet domain. In 2010, ICANN, the organisation that sets domain name policy on the Internet, will allow hundreds of new "top level" domains to be created.
This effort was launched in June of this year by green-tech start-up Big Room, Inc. and is guided by a Stakeholder Council whose membership includes WWF International, Green Cross International, Pax World Funds and others.
Big Room's Dot Eco initiative has been covered by the BBC, The Financial Times, The Times of London, Triple Pundit, The Toronto Star, and Triple Pundit.
This consultation was part of a global stakeholder engagement process to develop Big Room's policies that will define the use of a Dot Eco domain. Consultations have previously been held in Vancouver, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Lund, Essen, and Cape Town. Participants had the opportunity to learn about and provide feedback on Dot Eco policies. The meeting report is forthcoming.
