DESCRIPTION
The Governing Principles direct how Big Room Inc., as the proposed Dot Eco Registry, will operate the Dot Eco domain. It further defines registrants' commitments when registering and using a Dot Eco domain. The Governing Principles are constructed in accordance with Brundtland's definition of "sustainable development" - a belief and interest in development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
1. REGISTRANT COMMITMENTS
In order to use a Dot Eco domain, registrants must:
- Define their commitment to Dot Eco.
- Commit to creating an eco-profile.
- Ensure that information included in the eco-profile is accurate.
2. REGISTRY COMMITMENTS
In operating the Dot Eco Top Level Domain, Big Room Inc. will:
- Be accountable to the global sustainability community.
- Lead by example by minimizing its own environmental impacts.
- Provide significant funds for eco-causes via an independently governed Foundation.
- Make information provided by registrants in the Dot Eco System publicly and freely available.
- Positively contribute to and enable the growth and success of environmentally and socially responsible companies, products, markets and initiatives.
- Consistently improve the quality and transparency of information in the Dot Eco System.
- Encourage innovation, and be innovative in the use of the Dot Eco namespace.
- Enable existing sustainability standards and codes, and work to broaden their reach and impact.
- Provide trust in environmental and social claims and reduce the occurrence of greenwashing.
- Combine a global scope with local relevance.
Questions for Discussion
- Are these principles well articulated and specific enough to guide action?
- What existing principles and/or codes of conduct can we incorporate into the Dot Eco governing principles?
- Do these principles balance the broad interests of the sustainability community with the need for a manageable set of governing principles?
- How should we measure and report on progress against these principles?
